What is the Political Courage Test?

Washington Congressional Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
No one has the right to tell a woman how and what to do with her body. As a mental health professional, I have had to work with far too many families where a woman's right to chose was ignored or not given. This has caused great emotional harm to the woman and or the child. People know what they can and can not handle. Not a single person can answer that but the individual involved. Anything short of that choice is taking a woman's freedom to chose away.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
As an adolescent I did not understand the cap on taxes. As an adult I still do not understand the cap on income. Every individual should pay a set amount of 12% to 15% of their entire income on taxes to be used to fund things such as education, Free or affordable college, Single payer Health Care, or just the Green New Deal with no deductions. I am tired of our country using its power to define other countries. No more wars for profit. Cut the budget, remove the pork, get rid of the Military Industrial Complex.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
I do not agree with Citizens United. Corporations are entities with people running them. These people have one vote as the Constitution stipulates. Using money to buy votes buys power and control. America has lost its way. Power needs to return to the people with one vote, one voice. Hidden contributions should be illegal, Super PACS should as well. I am not for sale and we need laws that make it illegal for elected officials to be bought, slaves. Campaign contributions from individuals within a group yes. Indirect yes but with a cap and complete transparency for every dollar.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Federal spending in a jobs guarantee, rebuilding our infrastructure, free and affordable college tuition, investing in a green economy. Promoting education, small business creation and expansion will always be good for the country. Pouring money into companies to big to fail and giving them huge tax breaks for being in business is corporate welfare. They want the business. They have investors to help them grow. Why give major corporations tax cuts we are not willing to give small businesses? The scales need to be balanced. Yes, they have worked to get where they are, employees put them there, pay them.
Yes Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
That is a difficult question. Federal education standards have taken the ability of teaching students from the classroom and school districts to the government. It is not working. On the other end, racism and classism is still alive and well. This means all children in every zip code does not obtain an equal education lowering equal opportunities. If we have federal education standards, the standards and how to implement them needs to come from the classroom and not the boardroom. Teachers who have earned honors such as "Teachers of the Year" need to be the creators of such programs.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
It is a must for our environment and generations to come. I also support funding for creating new forms of renewable energy and tax breaks for companies that create new renewable forms of energy. We must move from oil and fossil fuels.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
We need to look at the entire 2nd Amendment and not just the first part. We need sensible gun control laws such as not being able to have a weapon until the background check comes back cleared. People with a history of violence or suicidal ideation should not have guns. People under the age of 21 do not need weapons unless they are in a well regulated militia. Weapons of mass destruction belong on the battlefield and not on the police force. There should be an accountability record that follows a weapon. Insurance for all gun owners, mandatory. De-escalate
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
I support the repeal of the Affordable Care Act with the implementation of Single Payer Health Care. The ACA was suppose to be a start, not the end. The DNC failed the citizens by not making the necessary changes while President Obama was in office. It is now not affordable for many, and puts us on the defense when we should have done this while on the offense. The only way out is Single Payer Health Care and not a Single Payer System set up to be a privatization system. We need Bernie's Single Payer for all bill.
No Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
If you are talking about DACA NO! I believe we need an immigration system that is fair and equitable for all immigrants. We need a system that is the same for all immigrants. Currently, that is not how our immigration system works. If we have illegal immigrants in America working and providing for a family, should they not have the same rights as immigrants who came here 40 years ago. What made America go into Mexico and kidnap citizens off the street and bring them to America while leaving children and families in Mexico? Was this the start?
Yes Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
I support legalization of cannabis for recreational use with the same restrictions as alcohol. Cannabis is safer than alcohol on the body. Both are mind altering drugs. Our brains are not fully developed until the mid 20's. The later individuals first use or regular use the less chance of damaging the developing brain. We need to change how cannabis is classified. Currently its classification is the same as heroine, opodiods, and other street drugs. Changing its classification will allow the drug to be tested for medical purposes.
No Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
No Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
Individuals and countries can be hostile yet it does not mean they will use the weapons to attack. Our position should be to keep a system in place to intercept and counter attack. In this stance, we are not the aggressor however; if attacked we are in position to take out for the safety of America and those who reside in America.
That is difficult because the problems we face in America are systemic and interconnected. How it will be addressed will very much depend on the number of Progressives elected to put into place issues we need while the DNC and GOP are not willing to move on such as Single Payer Healthcare, building tiny house villages with wrap around services to move people off the streets, from helpless and homeless to empowered and self sufficient. Implementation of moving towards a green infrastructure and away from fossil fuels at a much greater pace than currently used.
